What is Empathia?

The right words, for every person in your school.

Schools spend hours explaining the same things — to children who are anxious, parents who are confused, and staff who need a consistent message. Empathia does that work for you.

Every piece of content is written by specialists, reviewed for plain language and emotional safety, and designed to feel like a conversation — not a policy document.

Empathia is built for the whole school community — every child, every family, and every member of staff — with inclusion as the lens, and clear communication as the standard.

Rooted in trauma-informed practice and Carol Gray's Social Stories™ methodology, its warm, multilingual content is aligned with Ofsted's EIF — so no child, parent or practitioner is left behind.

Every story and guide is:
✓ Informed by Carol Gray's Social Stories™ methodology
✓ Aligned with Ofsted's EIF
✓ Available in multiple languages
✓ Developed with SENCOs and school practitioners

Built on what actually works.

🌈

Zones of Regulation

Informed by Leah Kuypers' Zones of Regulation framework for emotional literacy and self-regulation.

🧭

Our Evidence Base

Built on what actually works.

We're transparent about where our evidence comes from. Every Empathia story and guide names the framework it draws on — so SENCOs, heads and inspectors can trace every claim.

📖 Carol Gray's Social Stories™

Children's stories follow Gray's principles: patient and reassuring tone, first-person perspective, and describing before directing. Stories answer the questions children actually ask — where, when, who, what and why — before asking anything of them.

Children's Stories

🧠 Trauma-Informed Practice

Staff development content draws on the work of Bruce Perry, Bessel van der Kolk, Dan Hughes and Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory — regulation before reasoning, connection before correction.

🌈 Zones of Regulation

Emotional-literacy content is informed by Leah Kuypers' Zones of Regulation framework, giving children and staff a shared, shame-free language for feelings and self-regulation.

🧭 SEND Code of Practice (2015)

Parent guides are grounded in the SEND Code of Practice and the graduated approach — assess, plan, do, review — explained in plain language for families meeting it for the first time.

Parent Guides

Mapped to the frameworks schools are measured by.

Ofsted EIF

Content mapped across all four judgement areas, with evidence reports schools can hand to an inspector.

DfE guidance

Positioned against current DfE expectations for SEND provision and safe use of technology in schools.

Devolved frameworks

Estyn (Wales), Education Scotland and ETI (NI) alignment — Welsh-language content live at launch.

How co-creation works

Empathia was built with a group of 15 practising SENCOs. They review content, challenge language, and tell us what schools actually need — before anything reaches a child. Their fingerprints are on every film.

Safeguarding

Safe enough for the most careful school in Britain.

Empathia was designed with safeguarding as the starting point, not a feature. Here is exactly what we do — and what we will never do.

Our promise to every family

Empathia never reads emotion from a child's face or voice. Ever.

No emotion recognition, no biometric analysis, no profiling. This is written into our product and our contracts — and it is also the law in EU education settings, which we support ahead of time.

Five commitments, checked on every piece of content

👀
Every film is reviewed twice before a child sees it.
A specialist writes it; a SENCO signs it off. The author can never be the approver.
💬
Language is checked, every time.
Plain language and an approved-terminology check before anything is published — no jargon, no outdated terms, no shame.
🔒
Zero pupil data.
We don't collect, store or process children's personal data. Nothing about a child is ever put into an AI system.
A person approves every message home.
No communication reaches a parent or a school without a human signing it off.
🇬🇧
Your data stays in the UK.
All Empathia data is held in UK data centres, under UK GDPR and the ICO Children's Code.

Try before you buy

The free family learning-styles check (see Platform preview) gives parents and schools a real taste of Empathia before any licence conversation.

Questions schools actually ask

What's included in the licence?

Everything: the full library for all three audiences, multilingual versions, staff onboarding, the parent launch pack and termly evidence reports. No per-seat charges, no modules to unlock.

Can we pay from existing budgets?

Schools typically fund Empathia from SEND, inclusion, CPD or parental-engagement budgets. The Pricing & Funding Report sets out the funding routes in detail.

How long does setup take?

Days, not terms. There's nothing to install and no pupil data to migrate — because we don't hold any.

What about our safeguarding review?

We'll give your DSL and governors the full safeguarding pack up front, and we'll sit the review meeting with you. See the Safeguarding page for our five commitments.

Is there a trial?

Every family can take the free learning-styles check, and every school gets a live walkthrough with real content before any decision.
